hello to everyone on this rainy saturday…
i have been working on my portfolio homepage.
i want to have something simple and clean with the focus being on the work. please take a look below and let me know what you think.

i also think it could be fun to have some sliding effect – if my name started as it is in the jpeg below and then the line extends horizontally. followed by the sliding vertically of the bar next to the navigation then the appearance of the navigation links (does this make any sense?) then again i have no idea what type of work this involves so i am going to start researching.
right now i have the navigation broken into 3 sections.
work, contact and smile.
i am compiling some of my work so am trying to sort out the best way to categorize it. (so far i think, posters, books, identity, collateral…)
i think that lighthouse may be the clearest way to enlarge and show the work but i am still looking around and thinking of alternatives.
the contact link is self explanatory.
i hope to make the “smile” section one of inspiration and more personal. work that i like, things i find inspiring etc. i am also working on collecting images etc for this section and hopefully some organization will come once i have collected the pieces.
please let me know what ur thoughts and suggestions are.

Hi Karen,
I really like the minimalism of your design. I think that adding one color would enhance it – perhaps to your name or to the links? Perhaps your name in bold? I appreciate the line-like quality of it all but I think you can add a bit more emphasis to the navigation and still keep your elegant look.
As Mushon said, it’s hard to see what the design actually looks like because no work is being displayed. Right now the gray box you have there, which I’m assuming is just a filler, is functioning as a design element, and is preventing me from visualizing the site. So maybe you can add one vertical and one horizontal image to see how it looks?
It seems like your navigation will change a lot if you will be adding the different categories (posters, identity, etc), or will this be a subnavigation?
Also, do you need a ‘previous’ button along with the ‘next’ button? Not sure myself, just asking.
Looking forward to seeing some images in here, I think it looks very nice and it’s very you.

I agree with Alexandra, that a link color is needed and could enhance the look a bit.
Im also interested in seeing what goes in the mysterious gray box. After seeing this, i should probably go fill in my gray boxes too. Im trying to figure out if you are going to put one giant image of one piece of work to start the viewer right into your portfolio. Or if this grey box is going to be a montage of a few projects.
Maybe its just my opinion but seems like it could use a line or two explaining the site or who you are. right on the homepage. Wait, that could get weird if you are starting right into a portfolio piece. I guess it should go somewhere if not on the first page.
