Iz not cats everywhere?

What is 4chan? 4chan is a simple image-based bulletin board where anyone can post comments and share images. 4chan’s collaborative-community format is copied from one of the most popular forums in Japan, Futaba Channel. Different boards are dedicated to different topics, from Japanese anime, manga, and culture to videogames, music, and photography. Users do not need to register a username before participating in the community.

Apparently, this is the website where the whole LOLcats came from as well as many other things that have become popular on the internet. “The most primal versions of LOLcats appeared years ago on an Internet image board called 4chan, when Saturdays were designated as “Caturdays” - a special day to post photos of cats.” (Read more here)

I’ve heard of 4chan before, but today was one of my first times on the site. It’s pretty amusing and the purpose is kind of unknown to me other than being bored, finding some amusing things, and chatting with people.

I’m going to explore the site and see what the new crazes are, why the site is so popular globally, and figure out an interesting topic for my travel log!

definitely check out nick d’amelio’s posts about 4chan. he wrote about it for his anonymous posts.

there is also the cat application for facebook which has a whole lot of users which might relate to this.

Ha, thanks David. I totally overlooked that post.

Sorry Nick, I feel like a jerk for repeating what you have posted, but I’m going to try to explore a different aspect of the site.

Seems like 4Chan is a more convenient bulletin board site than many other ones because it allows users not to register for a username before posting their comments and things.

I am interested in how 4Chan is inherently related to cat images.

I think the anonymous-type stuff mostly takes place on the “Random” /b/ board, which is by far the most popular on 4chan and can also be the most offensive (as in NSFW).

If you’re interested in the lolcats meme in particular you might also want to look at its off-shoots. Be sure to check out http://icanhascheeseburger.com/ for the full array, but my personal favorite is the lolrus:

Sorry, that first link doesn’t work. Silly me and spelling things correctly when linking to a lolcats site.

Here’s the good one: http://icanhascheezburger.com/

second the cheez

Haha…very nice. This is a good topic, there’s a lot to be said about internet culture here, since apparently most online “memes” are created or distributed through 4chan. Just make sure it doesn’t eat your soul :/

People love cats.

Of all of the crazy and intelligent (questionable) youtube videos I have uploaded, the one with my cat rules them all with over 20,000 views.
