Closing post- My Youtube videos

After constructing two completely different videos, I have received a total of 260 views, (114 for the older video 146 for the newer one.)  If you haven’t seen them yet, feel free to check out my youtube channel where you will find both of them.

I have learned SO much from inserting myself into the youtube community.  Here’s a little summary of the main points:

So basically, I have realized that there is an art and skill involved in getting noticed in this community, pretty similar I would assumed to most other internet communities.  For that reason, there are a select group of people leading these online communities, while others simple enjoy/read what was created.  These people/leaders have the time, technological capability, agenda/passion, and online community smarts to create content that garners responses.

MORE SPECIFICALLY RELATED TO MY VIDEOS;
  1. As Mushon suggested after viewing my first video, narratives take more advantage of the medium of video rather than still images.  For this reason I believe my second video was more successful.
  2. Nick S.’s advice (mentioning the amount of views that he as received for the video of his cats and the political videos are a dime a dozen) shows that people who use youtube are often looking for a laugh, perhaps an escape from the real world.
  3. Finally, I think another reason my second video received more responses is that it was picked up by aggregator websites which led to more views.  This is probably because I placed many more tags on this video than the first one.
After this experience, if I ever decide to make another video I think I have enough knowledge on how to game the youtube community so that I could get more views and hopefully some comments.  :)

I guess there’s a lot you can say about the youtube community. I’ll agree that there are people out there to get the laughs, and that’s even helped create a phenomenon of Internet People (See south park episode about youtube). It’s shifting into another universal multipurpose medium. What started from simply sharing home videos on the internet turned into an ocean of corporate sponsorships and director accounts using the medium for their own marketing or fame purposes. (sorry if there are grammar mistakes in this comment I didn’t have my coffee this morning).

The best way to guarantee views on a youtube video is if you tag it with the most popularly search words…

Sex, britney spears, iraq, bush, lolcat, etc…
