It seems like the timing of this preview is saying: “hey, this is still a great project! We’re not done yet…”

If all goes according to Negroponte’s plan, you can expect to see the OLPC XO 2.0 available to the public in 2010. In the meantime, the OLPC XO will be returning with the “Give One, Get One” program in August or September of this year.

The design looks very cool, very slick… I would say even a bit too cool and slick… Remember, one of the rationals for the first XO childish/frogy design was to make sure it is for kids only (and Max). Well, I do not see this here, maybe the project is becoming a OLPA? One Laptop Per Anyone?

(David, thanks for pointing that out)

yeah, i agree that it is definitely too slick looking. Touch screens are gonna be easily damaged. They seem to have abandoned the functional/rugged thing the original had. There is also the absence of the ears that turned each computer into a router.

It definitely seems to be more marketed for the “get one give one” thing. People would definitely be more inclined to get this laptop compared to the older one because it is more slick. They kind of switched priorities from providing for the people in poverty to providing for the people who could potentially buy one which is where the whole giving and getting starts.
