Well, Im Certainly No Hannah Montana!

Disney Pop Sensation Miley Cyrus

After last week’s post I finally was able to upload my cover of Faith Hill’s song Cry to the purevolume site. After uploading my song, my page went from zero views to 70 and zero plays to a whopping total of 5 (Which I suspect was my mother :)) I was pleased that uploading my song to my page made a difference. However, it looks as though my plan to become an online music sensation will take a little longer than I thought haha.

Then I focused on my other site Babulous, and tried to figure out how to get more views and plays. I decided to change the photos on my profile page to something that hopefully made me look like a nice, sweet, clean cut girl. I did this in hopes that the comments I received would be more about constructive criticism about my singing rather than crude comments that had nothing to do with my music. This didnt make any difference. My profile received about twelve new views and plays this past week but no comments.

What I have been able to conclude from this travel log is that the bands and musicians that so-called “made-it” through their growing fan base online most likely already had a small fan base prior to building a page and were playing gigs. The online music community does not seem to be interested nor support people whose talent is singing. In order to become popular you have to be an original, you have to write and play your own music, you are not considered a musician if your only contribution is your voice.

If also realized that many of the music oriented communities are not really what they seem. As I’ve mentioned before, when My profile on babulous first went up, people were viewing it and commenting on my wall like crazy. However, the comments were crude and usually had nothing to do with my actual song. The reason I think there has been such a lull in comments on my page is because i refused to engage the commentators by writing something back. So it shows that u gain views by messaging people and commenting back and fourth even if it has nothing to do with anything.

So my music career will have to be put on hold ha…and with that I leave you with one of Hannah Montana’s, a top selling pop artist, songs:

Infiltrating the Online Music Community

For this travel log I tried to embed myself in the online music community. In order to do this I created a profile on a music site called purevolume.com. Its been up for about a week now and my page has received not a single view and non of the bands that I have “friended” have messaged me back. This site is for both professional and unsigned musicians.

Since my first attempt proved to be unsuccessful I decided to reactivate and account i had created a few months ago on a website called Babulous.com. I recorded a demo in february of Faith Hill’s song Cry. At first I just created the page so that my friends and family could listen to the song. Unfortunately it turned really ugly and while it got plenty of listens people started leaving really vulgar comments on my wall.

Babulous seems to be a site that is for amateur musicians and listeners. However, judging by the crude nature of the comments I imagine most of the members are on the young side.  I tried to upload my song to the purevolume website but I couldn’t figure out how to change the format so that it would work? If anyone could help me figure out how to change a song from itunes so that when uploaded it is in the mp3 format, that would be great!

Breaking into this online music business is alot harder than I originally thought :)

Fueled by Ramen: Online Music Community

As previously mentioned, for my third travel log Im going to investigate the online music community. More specifically the website www.fueledbyramen.com. When you first bring up the site there is always an advertisement for a band, either for a new album that may be coming out or an upcoming tour etc. There are usually two advertisements for bands or band related material before you actually get to the site.

I found the opening page of the website slightly daunting because there is so much going on, there is a news update that lists whats going on with certain bands. The site seems to promote alternative rock bands that may not necessarily be considered mainstream. First things first I registered for their text list service, I would assume that I’ll be getting texts about upcoming concerts and album releases. I also joined what they call the “street team”. According to the site, by joining the street team I will receive:

According to the site Fueled By Ramen is an independent record label that is based in Tampa Florida.

For my next post Id like to research more information on how the label got started and launched or discovered some of the bands found on the website. Hopefully with my new membership to the “street team” ill be able to gain some insider information.

Fueled By Ramen

For my third travel log Id like to explore the online music scene. More specifically the website www.fueledbyramen.com. The website is all about alternative rock bands, well most of the bands featured on the website I wouldn’t consider mainstream. There seems to be a lot going on on this site from news updates on favorite bands, blogs from different members of different bands, an online store to buy apparel with the logo of your favorite band, music videos etc.

I think the web has really helped independant artists and bands get recognized especially through sites such as myspace and fueledbyramen. I dont know where exactly I want my search to go but I think thats part of the fun.

SEX DRUGS AND ROCK & ROLL!

Violence Vs. Naivety

Thanks a lot for loving one of my favorite games-Super Mario Brothers! I would say definitely it is really a great bonding time for family to play this game together.  From my personal experience, though I did play this game with my mother before, I still feel I was more concentrating on winning the game than communicating with her.  I remember I was once so much into the battle that I pulled out the machine charger completely from the output (I know it was embarrasing >_<).  Also, one thing I would criticize about Super Mario is that we are not allowed to play two characters (Mario and his brother) together–I believe we would have more fun having two characters cooperating to flight against the evils; instead, players have to take turn to play at different time.

Otherwise, the theme music has been awarded as the most recognizable video game music in the world.  Whenever I hear this music, it always brings me a great deal of memory.  The beat of music is fast and happy; though the characters are involved in some sort of violence,  the music somehow creates naive and joyful sensation.   Yet does the violence overweigh naivety?
