cURL site design

Hi,
Here are few variations of the site design I did for cURL. One is going along with the direction I’ve been on, and the other 2 are different directions. I think the black and white could work, but I don’t think it’s there yet, so if you have suggestions that would be great.

blog problems

hey guys,
so I’m struggling a lot with my blog. Here’s the link:

As you can see, I have a couple posts in there, but for some reason i can’t get the styling to change to my theme… can someone help?
Thanks!

cURL redesign #3 + instructions

Hello,
Here is another design I came up with. Apparently I like gradients and drop shadows a lot now, who knew? I hope they aren’t too cheesy:) I was trying to keep it simple while stil giving the page some depth and richness. I still need to update the color scheme though. DO you think the hierarchy still needs work?

I haven’t gotten far enough with using cURL so it’s hard for me to tell you what to do in a few steps… Here is a link to a page that gives you somewhat clear instructions on how to do it:

cURL man page

Getting set up with it is sort of complicated, and there are a lot of steps before you get anywhere, but I think it’s a powerful tool if you know how to use it properly.

Here is an analogy that one of the users sent me, so maybe it will help everyone else understand a bit better:
“As you well know, the
operations of a web browser can be very complicated. Most of this
complication is hidden from the average user. The reason curl seems so
complicated is that curl is pretending to be a web browser. There is a
command line switch for all these options that are often set in a
browser by default.

So let’s say you wanted to simulate logging in to a online bank and
check your balance. In the process of doing that, you may hit 5
different servers and fill in webforms AND use https. You don’t see
this detail in a browser. So if you wanted an unattended program to
‘watch’ your balance, you’d have to figure out how make curl do that.
It is NOT easy in many instances. Experts like Daniel can make curl do
about anything. I have given up on many attempts to get curl to do
what I want. Online banking, checking a cancelled check image was one.
I couldn’t do it. I have internet explorer running on a PC using
keystroke simulation and screen capture. I do have curl doing
important things (making sure that users see what they are supposed
to), many of them easy.”

See you soon,
Sheila

e-mail to cURL re: site redesign

Hey guys,
Here is a snapshot of the beginning of the conversation I had with the people at cURL. There’s been more correspondence, but none of late because they aren’t able to receive images I’ve sent them, but I’m figuring that out. Will have some more changes by tomorrow hopefully :)

cURL redesign

Hey guys,
Sorry I missed class yesterday, it was unexpected. I made some changes to the homepage based on the comments so let me know what you think. I may have made it worse though… haha. I took away the underlines, which I think looks better. I kept the blue because it just feels like it works for them, but if people are against it I can change it. I added a quick download button, but they haven’t gotten back to me yet on whether I can do that. I also asked about a video, but they haven’t responded to that yet either. Do you think I should change the color scheme altogether? Let me know what you think!
Thanks,
Sheila

Design for cURL

Here is the first draft of my site design for cURL. It’s just a rough draft, but it’s in the direction I want to go in.

Final Project on cURL

So I’m trying to figure out a way to make this website so people understand what it is and why it’s used. My project is a redesign of this website that is a file transfer program, but it uses a command line in order to do so. I’m still learning about how to use a command line, but I am starting to understand what this company wants the audience to know about the company. The design I came up with so far is rough, but I purposely made it simple, because I think the company made it somewhat clear that graphics and images are not what they are about. The company is more for people who are really interested in the technology of it all. Apparently it’s simple, but I still don’t get it, haha.
Here’s the link to the site:

I will have to show you my design in class because it won’t let me up load the image through the “Add Media” button. It has been busy for 20 minutes and nothing has happened. :(

Great Wide Open on Processing.org

Hi everyone,
Mushon told me about this open source project called processing.org. It’s a really cool programming language that was created for people who want to create images, animations and interactions. It is used as a sketchbook where you can make really fun graphics that can move around and interact with each other, but it’s done in a way that is very accessible to everyone. The program is based on javascript and allows you to create so many things that could be quite simple, but also allows for very elaborate design, which I will show examples of.

Final Project Idea

Hey Guys,
I have been having a hard time finding a project to work on, but I’m probably going to use this one:
site
It’s called cURL and transfers files using URL syntax. It supports SSL certificates, FTP uploading, proxies, cookies, password authentication, proxy tunneling, and more. I used to use WebCargo when I wanted to transfer big files, but you could only do so many before you had to pay. cURL is and open source program, which is great, but I think I’m at least going to work on the website layout and the logo, and hopefully more. I’m signed up for the mailing list, but still working on the installation… I may need help with that.
Let me know what you guys think!
See you later,
Sheila
