A Photoblog
Hey so I just found this blog as I was procrastinating working and It has a very similar look and feel as my site. Its much more spartan than mine but I do like how the photograph is the main focus of the page and the text is really secondary. I think this should definitely help me flesh out my design. Never underestimate the power of random link clicking…

My Photograblog
Wow I just thought of that name and I think I am going to use it. I’ve been having real issues trying to name my blog something that isn’t Photography Blog, so maybe I’ll use Photograblog. Anyway here is the mockup of the site. I haven’t finished coding the CSS yet and am having issues with Background images but I will post back with more specifics soon when I get closer to having a final site up.
For the moment I an having a dilemma between the regular all black page or one with a grey border around the edge which is supposed to draw a parallel between photographs you make in a darkroom with borders around the edge. Anyway let me know what you guys think. I realise that nobody in class has seen this design before so give me all the feedback you can muster. Thanks guys.
Small revision
Did some more research, this may be busying up my design but thought about using these little line dividers to hide any attached images/tags.
What do you guys think? Still need to clean up the black area around the reversed out text, it is very rough at this point.
slog updated, html/css, wordpress theme all up.
Updated design, two options attached. First keeps with the white background/black text and gives some increased line spacing to the body copy. This was a helpful suggestion. Second update brings a different element to the table, I inverted all the text so it is white in black boxes, still simple looking and un-wordpressy in my opinion. I know I can figure out how to code this (I think, seems pretty possible to make the type appear as I want it to), but these are some photoshop comps, a bit rough, you can’t see the image as well as I would like.
Update: rough html/css linky
Slog will live here.
Edit: for some reason my padding is being goofy, it shouldn’t be sitting that far to the left. Looking forward to the workshop!

Update: javascript menu is working now (tiny and idiotic oversight on my part)
Update2: post copy is smaller now (seemed huge after not looking at it for a couple of days)
Bro Blog-Html,CSS
here is the site for my first-try blog, that’s how i deal with titled-image background. the illustrations will be click-able, functioning as categories. Im not sure what do now. Do i code the comments and posts and meta??? and make it look like my design?? Or I should turn into wordpress??? …I’ve uploaded wordpress to my site, what should i do now???
Brief: Theming on
The next two weeks are broken to two parts.
Part One:
- Get the HTML+CSS of your main page done before next Friday (March 21st) and post the link to our blog. with a reference to the design made in photoshop (upload a png image to your post).
- Comment on every post made to the blog with your feedback, we need to start helping each other so we make some more progress.
- Post about three open source projects you are thinking of contributing to as your final assignment (the contribution can be any form of design, from interface design, through web design, through icon design to logo, banners, stickers, posters and t-shirts designs)
Part Two (for next class, March 28th):
- Break the design into header, footer, main.php, sidebar and so on… and try to turn it into a theme based on the Sandbox theme.
- Read Eric Steven Raymond’s The Cathedral And The Bazaar. It might help your approach to the development of your blog and we will have a discussion on the book after the break.
- Write a post about the open source project you chose to contribute to as a designer. Try to lay out the ways in which you envision your contribution taking place.
In two weeks from now we’re all going to be theming like there’s nothing to it. please release early, release often meaning, try to post your progress on our blog or mailing list, remember, Given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow. If you run into problems let us know, we’ll try to crack it together, promise!
Oh my blog.
Attached are some images for my blog. I think you guys have all heard me grumble about the interwebz and how I find a lot of web design garish and scary and somewhat painful to look at…so with that as an influencing factor I pared my own design right now to the bare bones (but with some sneaky hover over bits, adding a bit of tech to it).
I think I will actually develop this into a personal blog, I have been putting that off for a while now, that is more of a tool for staying in contact with friends around the world and potentially showcasing my portfolio, although this is less of a concern. Inspiration in terms of content are sites like this and this and this and this but most importantly a personal touch (and easy on the youtubes). What drives me nuts about most ‘blahgs’ is the gigantic regurgitation of information and how people add zero personalized content, information, opinions, whatever.
Yadda yadda yadda, images attached, must learn how to diddle css to make those little hover guys, I know it is possible!
Edit: I am so awesome at the internet that I can’t get these imgs to load properly, so please right clicky –> view image on them to see what they actually look like.
Blog Content for my bro
this is just the stage of my content….I have a hard time to figure out how to make a friendly celebrating blog!!! Hope it works!
inspiration for my blog
Im going to design a blog for my brother; he is an actor in Asia. His name is Eddie Yuyan Peng and he has no official site. The following are my inspirations.
content: Eddie Peng (this site links to many other his sites)
structure: Jessica Simpson (her site is very clear to find the information)
presentation: Justin Tinberlake, Usher2, (cool presentation, very manly and high tech)
