Okay, here is my designed version of the NME Home Page. We basically wanted to cut out a lot of the clutter of the page and make it simpler and more streamlined. I wanted to give my a cooler look as well. So…i put a little art in the header and footer and distressed the logo a bit. I followed the info arch pretty closely - three columns presenting the most important info. There is also a concert/ticket search as well as an artist search. I left a link to the Magazine as well. You can link to different sections of the site from the Nav Bar and the section links in the three columns. Clicking the more buttons will take you to that particular article in its respective section.

architecture info style revision
so, following comments from last week regarding the home page info arch for the proposed redesigned nme.com website, we have made the following changes. we brought the member login/register down to underneath the logo and deleted the index search under the regular search. the nav bar stayed the same. we moved the gig search down and made it a comprehensive concert and ticket info search. we also put an artist search down in the lower right corner in case you didn’t hit the artist button in the nav bar. this allowed a space for advertising too. next - the design.

Hopefully todays post works. I have simplified my widget so that it has the media player is visible right away. The album cover, song and artist info appear as well. If you would like to search for specific music, use the search button and search fields appear along with a picture of the current band playing. The search fields are very easy to use and make customization really easy as well. You can select from broad genres such as rock, pop, jazz, rap, classical, reggae, metal, etc. Under the “type” search field you will find more specific music genres like garage, psych/rock, backpack rap, free jazz, noise, thrash, etc. You can also search by years and eras (ie 60s), as well as specific bands and artists.
new widget
Okay. Thanks for the comments - they’ve been quite helpful. Unfortunately I have been super busy making the cash money that my widget has fallen by the wayside. Everything should be up by Friday’s class though. In the meantime, here is my widget at it’s default state. I put in the album artwork since it seems more relevant and put the media player directly on the default view. You can use the menu on the player to control it’s options and you can press the search button to bring up the back page. The back page will contain search fields so you can narrow the search of what the widget will find for you (just in case you don’t want that new celine dion jam - although I can’t see why everyone wouldn’t want that). The search fields will allow you to search from general genres like pop, rap, rock, classical, folk, world and jazz. Then there will be a type search field so you can find more specific music like garage, pysch rock, free jazz, baile funk, hiplife, etc. Also, there will be an era search so you can find current music or stuff from the 90s on down. Hope this is better. Wire frame and such coming tomorrow (or very late tonight).

So, I think my music widget may be like a music magazine, in that it presents information as well as allowing you to search for music using certain criteria. Obviously, the benefit of being a web application is that it allows you to search a lot of information and you can listen to the music you search for right away.
Not really sure how I want this to lay out, but here are some initial wire frames - it may change in the future. Also, tried saving these as pdf’s, but then they don’t show up.

and as you can tell, my post is a little jacked up. nit sure what went haywire this time.
Widget
Definition: This widget is designed to provide discerning music fans to quickly check lists of the most popular, blogged about, or hated bands in an easy to use format.
Problem: It can be a time consuming and frustrating experience trying to find new music to listen to that fits the parameters of what you like. This widget can quickly scour the internet to find the right music for the listener.
Screenshot: This will be a computer based widget. Maybe some of the higher-tech phones.

Thanks for everyone’s comments - a tried implementing as many corrections as feasible. For this last round I basically just changed the menu, as that was one area I got a couple of requests for revisions. I tried putting the menu in the main window, but it just didn’t look consistent with the other pages having text there. So, I took Ed’s advice and just made the font size larger (same size as the other pages). I also got some comments about the black images in the main window. These are photos I took from around the building. Although they don’t have much to do with the content of each page, I left them there just cause I liked the look, and if you visited the shop, you would see these images around the place - hopefully that creates enough of a context to include them. Anyway, hope you like the look. I guess I feel since there is not much info to impart, I just wanted a nice looking site to make the shop look kinda neat. Thanks again.
