Revisions Revisited
OK…I did a Directions page. Pretty simple - just wrote them out and included a link to Google Map. Also, fixed the spaceing after periods in the text and cleaned up some of the backgrounds (probably not that noticeable to most, but there were a couple things bothering me). I included more info about Northeast Kingdom being owned by the same owners on that page as well as the Directions page. Anyway, hope you like. Any comments will be appreciated before we do the final for next week. Have a good weekend class.

round four revisions - w.s.c.s
Okay folks, lots of revisions, but still the same feel, I think. First off, I took off the Events tab in the Navigation Bar, as I think that information can go under News. Fixed the spelling in the text too. Next, I decided to have the logo move to the upper right corner after clicking subsequent pages after the Home page (News, also). This way, different images appear in the large space next to the text, but still darkened to keep the gritty city feeling. On the Community page, after clicking to enlarge the image, I changed the framing to look a little more distressed, so it wasn’t such a jarring black box.
The Menu page is much different. I took out the enlarged menu, and have it just as text on the left, like the News page. There is an arrow you can press to scroll the menu down. The arrow can also be used on the Community and News pages if there is more information that appears below the screen. An upper arrow will appear on the other side of the text to scroll up.
Lastly, I changed the Northeast Kingdom page so there is an image of the logo outside the restaurant instead of a screenshot of their Home page. Hopefully these changes are for the better. I believe it is a little more dynamic now, since there are more images as backgrounds, and hopefully just a little prettier too. Thanks for the comments ya’ll.

Round three revisions - W.S.C.S.
Alrighty. I took some of the suggestions for the site and hopefully corrected the bulk of the pressing problems. I changed the spacing of the footer and and navigation bar so they are more legible. I left the headers as they were, since the jumbled look was kinda part of the aesthetic I was going for. If it is too weird, I can change it. I also added some colored text in the paragraphs to break them up (also mirroring the color used in the footer and dividing bar at the top). I also added some reference to the Fig.’s used on the Community page. Hopefully it is a little more clear.
As for the new pages…Page three shows what the screen would look like if you clicked on one of the thumbnails. Page four shows a sample menu page. I think this may need some work. Lastly, page five shows the link page to the Northeast Kingdom, the restaurant owned by the same owners down the street.
That is all.

Revised pages
Here are my revised pages considering the critique on Friday. I wrote some actual text, changed the highlighted button color to mach to lower headline border and the NYC at the bottom. I also fixed the Community headline a bit and fixed the kearning of the text, along with where it was justified. Lastly, I spaced the photo’s on the second page differently, added a dividing line and the buttons to click underneath. Hope it looks a bit better.

Designer pages
Here are my pages for the website for the Wyckoff Starr Coffee Shop with grids and without. I changed the architecture a bit to give the homepage the dynamic material of current news about the place.

Information Architecture
This is a very simple layout for the Wyckoff Starr Coffee Shop. The finished product will be much prettier. I may change the layout of the buttons and have them closer to the feel of the Northeast Kingdom (the restaurant down the street owned by the same people). You can visit that site here. There will be six pages that look the same, with just the content in the middle of the screen changing according to what button you press along the top.

Local biz
Here is a map of my hood and the location of the business I have chosen to create a website for. My house is the green mark and the business is labeled in blue. I wanted to pick a non-food service business, but many of the other places I visited I had a hard time communicating with the employees. This is a predominantly Spanish speaking area, and my Spanish is pretty much non-existent. The business is a coffee shop located at the corner of Wyckoff and Starr streets and is (amazingly) called the Wyckoff Starr Coffee Shop. They do have a very simple Myspace page, but it is not very informative (no business hours displyed even). I think a web page would be beneficial to them, since there are many new residents in the area that would appreciate a coffee shop like this. The owner also owns a very nice restaurant right down the street.
The place only has six employees and has been opened for about a year and a half. The website I envision would have pertinent information like business hours and a menu. However, there is cross promotion going on with Northeast Kingdom (the restaurant down the block) as well as community events. A website displaying this information, along with daily and weekly specials would be quite informative. You can visit their Myspace page here .

(fixed) mind control

here’s a jpeg image of my review for the trap. i drew it with the pencil tool this time (kind of tracing over my scanned original drawing). i actually like this better; this time it doesn’t lose image quality and i kind of like the pixel look for this particular image.
interface shminterface
Digital: There is a music news website I often visit at www.aquariumdrunkard.com. The layout reads like a typical blog, but the gentleman that runs it post so much news and information that you can link back and forth between new and old articles very easily. This is handy in case you’ve missed some previous entries. He also allows you to download mp3’s of the music he posts or stream it directly from the page. He also posts his internet radio shows on the blog to make it even more interactive. This is not the most exciting digital interface, but it is one I am currently looking at, so it is fresh in my brain.
Non-digital: Right now, this desk I am sitting at seems like good interface to me. It is at the perfect height and has ample space for my computer, scanner, sketchbook and record player. What more do you need?
