I totally agree about others’ expectation for you to be available at all times. I’m guilty of expecting everyone to reply to my emails promptly (though i don’t mind if people don’t pick up my calls, cos i miss calls all the time). And i feel like communication between friends feels more like work now, because of that expectation and also because it’s all so systematic. I spend about 3 hours everyday just reading and writing emails (not just from friends, but from school and work, too), and for people like Mushon, it must be much more than that. And this constant influx of communication from various media has devalued human communication as well. Not many people read emails as carefully as they should, which often results in miscommunication or important information falling through the cracks. Now it seems to be more about promptness than accuracy. I also have a huge issue with privacy in regards to digital communication. Unfortunately, it’s so easy to forward emails/texts, and most people do it without even realizing that the person who wrote that email could have assumed it to be confidential. I take privacy very seriously and cannot tolerate people forwarding emails without the original author’s permission.
